Dr. Ashok Balasubramanyam is Professor of Medicine and Rutherford Professor of Diabetes Research at Baylor College of Medicine. His major research interests are in characterizing and understanding the pathophysiology of complex metabolic disorders, including atypical forms of diabetes such as Ketosis Prone Diabetes and HIV-associated metabolic disorders. He is a PI of RADIANT, the NIH's consortium for the study of rare and atypical forms of diabetes. As Director of the Clinical Scientist Training Program at Baylor, he is deeply involved in mentoring and developing the careers of clinician scientists, and as Vice-President for Academic Integration, in precision medicine initiatives that connect Baylor to its academic medical center and health system network. He is a past Chair of the Endocrinology and Metabolism board of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
